REMODELLING OF HOLIDAY HOME, ROSSLARE

A standard two-storey house is re-imagined as a Provençal villa.

CLIENT BRIEF

The clients wanted a place where they could escape for weekends and holidays. The home they bought needed renovation throughout and the gardens in particular needed considerable attention.

BEFORE

DESIGN

The idea was to create a place that would transport the owners away from day-to-day life to - as it were - sunnier climes.  A sunny and sheltered south-facing courtyard was constructed over the existing planted back garden (as shown in the 'before' picture).

This courtyard catches the sunlight and is filled with Mediterranean plants such as lavender and olive. This drought-resistant planting is well suited to the intermittent care that is likely with a holiday home.

The main living rooms were fitted with patio doors in lieu of windows to create direct access to the courtyard.  In the course of a thorough renovation, internal/external shutters and decorative ironwork elements reinforced the transformation.
