CLIENT BRIEF

The Clients wished to considerable extend and remodel their single-storey traditional cottage in Glencullen Village in the Dublin Mountains.  This project was very close to their hearts as one of the couple had grown up in the house. The extensions were needed to provide up-to-date accommodation and services.

BEFORE

DESIGN

The first task was to remove the inappropriate flat-roofed extensions at the front which dated to the 1970s.  The decision was made to elongate the cottage somewhat and to raise the roof level to provide bedroom accommodation on the first floor.  The old slates were reused and the charming decorative barge boards were duplicated.  The house when complete retained the character of the original cottage whilst the floor area of the house was more than doubled.

The character of the cottage is retained and enhanced in the considerably enlarged and upgraded house to the delight of the owners.
