NEW HOUSE, WICKLOW WAY, CO DUBLIN

A new home in an old farmyard.

CLIENT BRIEF

The clients wished to construct a new house on their family landholding in a sensitive area on the Wicklow Way. The house needed to be designed to comply with the strict planning criteria applicable in the area - not least because of its prominent position. This was  self-build project.  The Clients were to take on the construction of the house themselves.

DESIGN

The best place for the house was in the existing farmyard oriented to be gable-on to the public road in the traditional fashion which meant that its bulk could give shelter over the yard from the prevailing west winds and driving rain.

The house is designed as a traditional two-storey farmhouse similar to others in the area.

The house is warm and comfortable and already looks like it has been in position for a very long time.
